Spray Lakes Sawmills began its pursuit of attaining 3rd party forest certification in 1996. From 1996 through 2009, Spray Lake Sawmills was certified under the Alberta ForestCare certification program. SLS obtained international 3rd party forest certification in 2013 and continues to be forest certified by internationally recognized programs.
SLS’s has made the commitment, through its Chain of Custody program, that all of the wood sourced to operate its sawmill is:
- Not harvested from forest areas where traditional or civil rights are violated;
- Not harvested from forest areas having high conservation values which are threatened;
- Not harvested from genetically modified (GM) trees;
- Not illegally harvested;
- Not from natural forest that have been converted to plantations or non-forest use.
